British Values

Wood Bank school has four bespoke curriculum pathways. Each pathway supports and teaches British Values at a level which is appropriate to the child.

We promote the definitions of British Values in the following ways:

Democracy

We recognise that every child is unique and model respect in all teaching and learning across all four curriculum pathways.

We demonstrate a commitment to developing the child’s self-confidence and awareness, helping them to develop an understanding of themselves and others.

The Rule of Law

We support every child in managing their feelings and behaviour using a wide range of approaches and strategies specific to individual need.

The children are taught right from wrong with support in helping them to understand and respect boundaries and where appropriate, consequences of their actions.

Individual Liberty

The voice of the child is central, and opportunities are given to allow every child to express themselves freely through the use of communication, sensory exploration or physical expression; to be able to practise and embed learning and to make choices through a whole range of learning experiences.

Mutual Respect and tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs

We help every child to gain an understanding of the world around them through learning about themselves, other people and communities. In school we learn about different faiths and beliefs through immersive theme days, developing an understanding and respect for ourselves and those around us.

The table below gives a few examples of how the Wood Bank Curriculum teaches and instills British Values:
