We aim to provide a curriculum that allows our children to be successful learners who are able to learn at their own pace through exploration and discovery. We recognise that every child within our school has their own journey to take, and we aim to provide the opportunities to allow them to become as well prepared as possible for the next stage of their lives. Our curriculum favours a developmental approach in the sense that rather than allowing subjects or themes to determine what happens in the classroom; core principles for communication, social understanding and physical development form an integral part of our daily curriculum for all children. For children to achieve across all areas of their individual profile they require a holistic approach.
We follow a modified curriculum based on the National Curriculum. Our children are encouraged to develop their skills through small group and 1:1 teaching. We also believe strongly on providing opportunities for outdoor learning and access to real life experiences to ensure that learning can be generalised across all situations. This allows our children the opportunity to learn about the world around them and creates opportunities for an exciting and relevant education.

As part of the process to create a curriculum designed to meet the needs of our diverse population, we used a Learning Needs Audit from Castle Hill School, which was adapted to reflect the unique makeup of our current cohort. Each teacher completed the audit to determine the most important needs of each individual child. This information was then collated and analysed to form statistical evidence justifying the subsequent content of the curriculum, and placement of each child. The results of the audit showed that there were three distinct groups that require a varied style of curriculum, and classes are organised in terms of individual needs to reflect this.
